Baggage is bondage

As long as there is wanting to have something or to become something, there will be that baggage of wanting that we will be carrying and we will not be free. The seeker has to go beyond the seeking to be Free. Freedom comes only when we let go all the wanting.

All philosophies try to teach us to become a hero. But only Truth teaches us to become Zero. As long as we desire to become something or a hero, we cannot become that, because we will be burdened more with the desire rather than that something. The moment we become Zero, then we can become real heroes. Only a Zero can engulf everything and can become everything, rest all will just be only something and can never become Nothing.

One of the Upanishad message is:

om poornamadah poornamidan poornaatpoornamudachyate
poornasya poornamaadaaya poornamevaavashishyate||

That is Complete and this is Complete
From the Completeness the Completeness arises
Taking away the Completeness from the Completeness
The Completeness remains as is.

The one that is existing is already Complete. It is the thought that to become something which will make it appear incomplete. Hence, the thought to become something will drive us nuts. However, the affirmation and complete conviction of Completeness and a constant awareness of Completeness will make and keep us free forever.

Every thought is a baggage and every baggage is a bondage. The attachment towards thoughts will bind us and prevent us from becoming free. This attachment towards thoughts has become the ever carrying baggage which is preventing us from becoming aware of the Completeness. Because of delusion we keep on carrying this baggage of attachment towards thoughts. Somehow and at some moment we should get bored of this baggage and get out of this game of delusion. The day we are completely bored of carrying the baggage (in any form, even subtlest), then and then only we can let go and at that moment we are free from delusion and become aware of our ever existent Completeness.

Let the Grace of that Completeness keep us ever awake in Completeness.

What is death?

What is death?

It just doesn't matter. How much important a change of dress is? It is the life that is important and it never existed other than in thoughts. Hence, in reality death never existed. The so called consciousness is existing because someone, somewhere in this whole Cosmos gave importance to it. But, in reality even it never existed. What existed is only a simple awareness of existence and existence of awareness.

For I Thought

For I thought - A poem offered at the feet of Nothingness as it is revealed by the Cosmos.

For I Thought

I thought I was a stone block, needed to be sculpted.
I waited for the sculptor, who can chisel me into a nice sculpture.
For I thought I need to be chiseled.

One day sculptor came and I was happy upon his arrival.
While the sculptor started chiseling, I was growling with pain,
For I thought I am losing something that belonged to me

Upon the first stroke there fell a large chunk of portion from the block.
I was happy even though there was pain,
For I thought, I am being sculpted.

I cried and cried with pain as the sculptor chiseled and chiseled,
I waited patiently for the sculptor to finish the task at hand.
For I thought, I can be a nice sculpture.

Years have gone by and the chiseling continued,
The big chunks disappeared and small chips started falling,
For I thought, I am being sculpted.

As the chiseling lessened and smoothing has started
One day I asked the sculptor, how long will it take?
For I thought it has been a long time.

Sculptor said "it depends upon you".
I didn't understand what the sculptor said
For I thought I can understand the sculptor.

While I waited patiently, again years have gone by
And the smoothing continued,
One day again I asked the sculptor, how long will it take?
For I thought it has been a long time.

Sculptor said "it depends upon you".
I didn't understand what the sculptor said
For I thought at least now, I can understand the sculptor.

Again I waited patiently, this time lives have gone by
Chiseling and smoothing continued,
One day I took a moment and asked the sculptor, how long will it take?
For I thought it has been a very long time.

This time sculptor answered in a different way,
Sculptor said "as long as you think".
Suddenly in that moment everything vanished

For I thought I was a stone block,
For I thought I need to be chiseled
For I thought I needed a sculptor

For I thought I existed,
Everything existed
For I thought

It was revealed that there was never a stone block,
Neither the sculptor existed nor the sculpture.
What eternally existed is only that Nothingness.

All these moments, I was dreaming
For I thought.

What is transformation and transcending?

Q) What is transformation and transcending?

A) Transformation happens when one form changes into another. A human body (in fact all living beings with a form) undergoes transformation every second. Millions of cells die and take birth every second. We would be able to see the difference only after a period of time. That is the reason why there are different stages in human life. Birth, infant, child, young, middle age, old age and death. There is a physical change in the body and at every moment there is change in the form which is called as transformation.

While the physical change is called as transformation, the psychological change based upon the levels of consciousness is called transcending. When the thought process "shifts" from one level of consciousness to another level of consciousness, it is called transcending. In reality what is happening is a shift in the focus of the witness (one who is witnessing).  This can be understood by a simile. A camera man will change the focus of the lens based upon the object that needs to be captured by the camera. He/she can focus on the distant object by defocusing the lens from the nearer object, similary the focus can be shifted from the distant object to the nearer object just by defocusing the lens from the distant object. But when the object to be focused and the object to be defocused are at the same distance for example an image on a screen, then whatever may be the technique physically it is not possible to shift the focus. However, mentally one can defocus and focus on something that is required by that individual at that moment.

If I am watching a movie which is projected on a screen and if I have to focus on the screen and not on the movie that is being projected, then I have to shift my focus mentally on to the screen and this can happen only by transcending my thought process from one level to another level. Even though physically my eyes might be watching the movie and the images that are being projected on the screen are caught by the camera of my eyes, still they will not reach my mind as it has shifted its focus from the ever changing movie to the non-changing screen. This shift in focus from the ever changing and ever transient movie to the non-changing, ever existent screen is called as transcending.

The empty space that we "see, don't see, perceive or don't perceive by our senses" is the screen and the world (earth, stellar objects, everything that is manifested with a form) that we see or perceive through our senses is the movie. This empty space is the eternal void with dazzling darkness in which the manifested world is being projected including the light. The knowing or the knowledge to shift this focus by the individual or the "witness" is called "pragna." This can either happen by mere Grace or when one gets bored with the ever changing movie that is being projected on the ever existent non-changing screen.

What is happening in reality is that the individual has become aware of the ever existing void just by shifting the focus from the illusory world. Paradoxically it is not that an individual has become aware of it (as individual is also a projected image on the screen) and it does not matter what words are used for this happening, in truth what is happening is that the "awareness" has become aware of "itself".

Why do we need to seek God?

Q) Why do we need to seek God?

A) Human beings feel a kind of emptiness, a kind of "incompleteness" all through their lives. This is the only reason why they try to seek for something by which they can feel "complete." They try to seek for this "completeness" in either money, power, relationship, education (academics, dance, cultural arts, music, etc.) or any other thing that is external. As long as the seeking is extended outward and the search is only in external things, happenings or objects, the search or seeking will be incomplete and he/she will never be satisfied. This dis-satisfaction will result in many perversions if not directed and controlled in a scientific or age-old prescribed and well-proven methodologies.

This is where Yoga helps. Yogic techniques will provide guidance to the individual who would like to channelize the energies and instead of focusing outward will make every effort to focus inward. This is the stage (or sometimes early also) at which the individual is introduced to a concept called God. At this stage, for the individual God is something still external, because he/she cannot really understand the word as the Truth about God is beyond the mind's understanding power. Hence, there is a limitation of mind and the individual can never cope up with the concept of God.

As the focus turns inward through proper scientific techniques, the individual will start becoming conscious of breath, various vibrations within the body and over a period a time the "stillness" that happens when all effort is stopped by the individual. When the individual becomes conscious of the presence of this "stillness" he/she will be inquisitive enough to go and pursue this "stillness." As it cannot be understood by the mind (because of its limitation) he/she will start becoming aware of its presence more and more.

As the individual becomes more and more aware of stillness, he/she will start feeling "complete" during the phases of "stillness." At this stage the individual will understand that "completeness" can be achieved by not going outward, but by just turning inward. As this stage deepens over a period of time, the individual will start understanding the concept of God and realizes that God is not something that one can seek outside, but one has to seek within and and individual shall not seek God to become something else, but to become complete. Once an individual becomes "complete", then what remains is only "complete".

The "incompleteness" is because of the seeking that is happening all the time as the seeker is seeking for the Seeker outside instead of inside. As the seeker meets the Seeker within the seeking stops. Paradoxically the seeking stops only when the seeker's seeking stops both outward and inward and becomes aware of the "stillness" that is omnipresent and omniscient eternally.

It is not that we need to seek God. It is the seeker who is seeking for the Seeker to become "complete" and become One.

I Come To Tell You All of Him by Paramahansa Yogananda

I come to tell you all of Him by Paramahansa Yogananda

I come to tell you all of Him,
And the way to encase Him in your bosom,
And of the discipline which brings His grace.

To those of you who have asked me
To guide you to my Beloved's silently talking mind,
Or speak to you through a gentle significant glance,
Or whisper to you through my love,
Or loudly dissuade you when you stray away from Him.

But when I shall become only a memory or a mental image,
Or silently speaking voice,
When no earthly call will ever reveal
My whereabouts in unplumbed space
When no shallow entreaty or stern stentorian command
Will bring an answer from me,
I will smile in your mind when you are right,
And when you are wrong, I will weep through my eyes,
Dimly peering at you in the dark,
And weep through your eyes, perchance;
And I will whisper to you through your conscience,
And I will reason with you through your reason,
And I will love through your love.

When you are able no longer to talk to me,
Read my Whispers of Eternity.
Eternally through that I will talk to you.
Unknown I will walk by your side
And guard you with invisible arms.

And as soon as you know my Beloved
And hear His voice in silence,
You will know me again more tangibly
Than you knew me in this earth plane.

And yet when I am only a dream to you
I will come to remind you that you too are naught
But a dream of my Heavenly Beloved,
And when you know you are a dream, as I know now,
We all will be ever awake in Him.

How to meditate?

Q) How to meditate?

Ans.) Meditation is not a technique where one can learn. It is not something which can be done, performed, or manipulated to get something.

If we have to grow a plant, we don't grow it just like that. We till the soil, prepare it properly, sow the respective seed and provide appropriate nourishment and wait patiently for the seed to sprout and grow into a plant. The growth of the plant happens all by itself. We only prepare the appropriate environment for it to grow.

Another example is: if we have to go to any particular place by train we will not manufacture the train, we make ourselves available on the right platform where that train arrives. Our availability at the right time and appropriate place is the required criteria.

Similarly for meditation to happen, what we need to do is to take some time out from our busy schedule, we should stop making noise and sit in silence. When one sits in silence and all the thoughts are subsided or when there is no attachment towards the thoughts then meditation happens and that is what is true meditation is. Hence, meditation is not a technique, it is not something which can be made to happen. It is not something that can be created or manipulated. It reveals itself when we let go our self and sit in silence and wait patiently for it to happen all by itself. It is our attachment to our self and our attachment towards our thoughts that prevents meditation from happening. The moment we realize this aspect, then one can meditate wherever and whenever.

I think, therefore, I am!

I think,

therefore,

I am.

I exist only when I think. When I am not thinking, where do I exist? This is a kind of self-enquiry each and every one of us have to carry out at one stage or the other.

Modification and manifestation

All manifestation and modifications happen because of the attachment towards the thought. A simple question and answer on this aspect.

Q) What is the  cause for  modification?
A) Attachment towards the thought

Q) What gets  modified?
A) The attachment towards the thought gets modified and in turn that thought gets strengthened and materializes into some object (manifested cosmos) with the help of panchabhutas.

Q) By whom?
A) By that individual who is attached to the thought and subsequently who or whatever is in the vicinity of that.

Q) Why does it happen?
A) Because of delusory thought that the manifested cosmos is real and the attachment towards the thought that something has to be manifested or materialized.

Q) What is the method of protection against  modification?
A) Very simple. Detachment towards thought.

I AM THE SILENT WITNESS

I AM THAT SILENT WITNESS

I am that Eternal Silent Screen Witnessing everything.

Whatever may be the emotions,
Whatever may be the perceptions,
Whatever  may be the feelings of the images that are being casted upon,
I am untouched by them,
Because I am that Eternal Empty Screen which is silently witnessing everything as a cosmic motion picture.

Who I am and What I am?
It just doesn't matter
Whether I am living in a body or not living in a body
It just doesn't matter
Whether I am angry or
Whether I am peaceful
It just doesn't matter
Whether I am happy or
Whether I am in deep sorrow
It just doesn't matter
Because I am that Eternal Empty Screen which is silently witnessing everything as a cosmic motion picture.

Whatever may be the emotion;
Whether it is anger, happiness, sadness, sorrow or joy
It doesn't matter
Whether there is love or hatred
It doesn't matter
Whether I am excited or in deep melancholy
It just doesn't matter
Because I am that Eternal Empty Screen which is silently witnessing everything as a cosmic motion picture.

Whether I have to play a role of a father or a mother
A sister or brother, a grand child or grand parent
It just doesn't matter
Whether I have to play a role of boss or a subordinate
Whether I have to play a role of master or a servant
It just doesn't matter
Because I am that Eternal Empty Screen which is silently witnessing everything as a cosmic motion picture.

Earthquakes may come, tsunami's may come
Trees are born and trees may die
Planets may evolve, stars may be born
So many stellar bodies may evolve and die
But still, it just doesn't matter
Because I am that Eternal Empty Screen which is silently witnessing everything as a cosmic motion picture.

An insect is eaten by a bird
That bird is eaten by a bigger bird
A smaller animal is eaten by a bigger animal
A weaker animal is eaten by a stronger animal
In this relativistic world every animal is trying to survive
But still, it just doesn't matter
Because I am that Eternal Empty Screen which is silently witnessing everything as a cosmic motion picture.

Water gets evaporated and forms into clouds;
Clouds condense and turn into rain;
Rain gets collected and forms rivers;
Rivers flow and nourish the land;
Trees are grown and eventually they die also.
Rivers flow and flow till they merge into the ocean and lose their identity.
Whether an identity is born or it is lost;
It just doesn't matter
Because I am that Eternal Empty Screen which is silently witnessing everything as a cosmic motion picture.

Whether a thought may come or a thought may go,
Whether a thought may transform into another thought or,
A thought may materialize into something;
It just doesn't matter
Because I am that Eternal Empty Screen which is silently witnessing everything as a cosmic motion picture.

Time moves on from seconds to minutes,
minutes to hours, hours to days,
days to months, months to years,
years to decades, decades to centuries.
Millions of years just disappear.
Time itself is only a relativistic phenomenon,
that is happening in this vast cosmos.
So many things will just transform from one form to another,
in that time period,
which is the biggest illusion that is occurring
and is being casted as an image on that empty screen
I am not entangled or attached to the image
that is being casted and is transformed in that illusory time
Because I am that Eternal Empty Screen which is silently witnessing the time itself as a part of the cosmic motion picture.

Let us be aware of that Eternal Presence of that Silent Empty Screen.
Come what may. Whatever happens, it will happen only in the relativistic world.
Let us not bound  let us not get entangled with anything.
Because we all are that Eternal Empty Screen which is silently witnessing the time itself as a part of the cosmic motion picture.

Difference between Truth and fact

Q) What is the difference between Truth and fact?

A) Truth is ever existing. It will not undergo any change. Whereas fact will undergo frequent change. The fact that is present in this moment will undergo a change in the next moment. The time changes in constant motion with the fact also.

Facts are all those happenings in this relativistic world. All that we see or hear or perceive through our senses in the relativistic time are all facts. All facts have life for that moment only. The water that flows in a river for that moment only. The same water that flowed in a particular moment of time does not flow in the next moment. The human body that exists in a particular moment does not exist in the same way the next moment, it will undergo many changes when we look at it microscopically.

All facts happen in the relativistic time and there is no denial of them, because they have happened and there is a witness for all those happenings, and each fact happened at a definite time for a definite period of time however minute that time may be. The facts will tell us that a particular happening has happened. Apart from that they will not tell us anything. When we look at a fact after its happening and ask ourselves, why this fact/incident has happened, we will not have an answer. But only when we look at it metaphysically then we understand that there should be a cause in the past for every effect which is the fact that is happening in the present. Hence, every fact that is happening in the now has a cause from its past.

It is a fact that we have a human body. But, for obtaining this human body what was the cause? When we question in this manner, then we can get into the root cause, and a deeper and perfect root cause analysis by self-inquiry will reveal that it is our thought process and our attachment towards our thoughts in the past has created and made us to obtain this present body.

Since the present body is already an effect of the cause of past thought patterns or conditional thinking, we cannot change it much. We have to bear more or less with it. However, how this present body has to be in future (with the existing body) and further more into future (after leaving the present body) is where we have a choice, and that is where we have to make at least a better choice. We need to choose whether we further need to have attachment towards our thought processes or not. If we have attachment towards our thought process, then we will create another situation or another fact that will eventually happen in the relativistic time. If we do not get attached to any of our thought processes, then nothing will eventually happen in the relativistic time. So, it is like a picture being projected on a screen continuously. Show after show is being projected on the Screen in relation to our attachment towards our thought processes or conditional thinking.

Now let us pause here for a moment and observe carefully.

Where is this picture being projected on? Where is this show happening?

The show is happening in the relativistic time and all the happenings of the show, we are calling them as facts. The projection of the show is being projected on a Screen which is never changing. So, the Screen that is not undergoing any change is the Truth. As picture cannot be seen without the screen, so this cosmic motion picture cannot be seen without the help of Truth. All this cosmic motion picture is happening on the Truth as substratum. Instead of focusing on the cosmic motion picture, if we de-focus ourselves from this and focus on the Screen that is the Truth, then Truth will automatically reveal itself.

At the beginning and end of every show we all see the screen. But as long as the movie is being projected on the screen, we forget the screen. Similarly before or at the beginning and end of every life we live with the Truth and know the Truth. Only when we get entangled with the so called life that is this motion picture played by this body, we forget the Truth.

To understand the Truth and realize it, we need to take out some time and de-focus from the so called facts and focus on the Screen or Truth. The moment we do it we would be getting away from the conditional thinking. And the more and more we focus on the unchanging, ever existing Truth, more and more we can get away from our conditional thinking. The more and more we get away from our conditional thinking, the less and less our attachment will be towards our thought processes. In this manner somewhere we will get bored of the shows that are being projected and instead of getting involved in show after show (life after life) we can get rid of our attachment towards our thought processes completely and get away from the series of shows that are being projected and anchor ourselves in the Truth.

Facts happen because of our attachment towards the thoughts on the substratum of Truth similar to that of the picture being projected on the screen. The Screen is the Truth which is ever existing and does not undergo any change. The picture is the fact that undergoes various changes. We have to chose whether we want to live with the Screen/Truth or we want to live with the motion picture that is being projected on the Screen. The motion picture cannot exist without the screen, similarly the fact cannot exist without the Truth. Screen can exist without the picture, in the same way Truth will exist without the facts. As screen is the substratum for every picture, similarly Truth is the substratum for every manifestation.

To know the Truth we simply have to de-focus from the picture and witness the Screen. Remember the Screen/Truth is unchanging and ever existing.

What is Meditation?

Q) What is Meditation?

A) The one that happens when everything is "let go" by sitting in silence is meditation. "Let go" means, letting go the thoughts (attachment towards the thoughts), aspirations, perceptions, feelings, emotions, control, etc. Letting go everything including the "I."

Interpretation

The right student listens to the Guru’s instructions which are always present and he/she shall be guided by the Guru provided the student enters into that emptiness through stillness (here the sky is compared to that of emptiness or stillness). The Guru always speaks in Silence. Only when our minds chatter stops and when we enter into Silence we can hear the whisper of Guru or Cosmos.

We all came from the naada bindu, i.e., the One and only avyakta (unmanifest) and took different forms.

The ONE which is ever present is called as Purusha which is Universal Awareness and Universal Consciousness. This is the unmanifested form of the Universe. This when gets expressed into manifested form is called as Prakruti which will have limited consciousness and hence called as unconscious. (The word consciousness here should not be considered as the word that we use in general forms that of related to mind.)

The Prakruti gets expressed into the Cosmos that we perceive and see. For this Prakruti to get expressed in various forms, it splits into three characteristics called as Triguna - Sattwa, Rajas and Tamas. While the Rajas characteristic takes care of activity, the Tamas characteristic takes care of the inertia. The Sattwa characteristic takes care of the equilibrium of activity and inertia. Whatever we see, perceive and experience in this cosmos is a combination or recombination of these three characteristics.

While the three characteristics makes the framework for the manifestation of the cosmos, it is further manifested into 23 elements. The first is the Mahat tattwa which forms the basis for the Buddhi or Cosmic Intelligence. The Buddhi gives rise to Ahankara. Ahankara with the help of Sattwa characteristic expresses into the subtle substance of thoughts called as Mind, 5 organs of perception called Jnanendriyas, 5 organs of action called Karmendriyas. The same Ahankara with the help of Tamas characteristic expresses into the 5 gross elements called Pancha Bhutas and 5 subtle elements called Pancha Tanmatras. The Rajas characteristic provides energy for the evolution and existence of these 21 elements.

Since the most subtle part of these 21 elements is mind, the Saints advice to quieten the mind and prescribe various methods of practices. While the Yama, Niyama, Asana methods of practice reduce the effect of Rajas characteristic; the Pranayama, Pratyahara reduces the effect of Tamas Characteristc and makes the aspirant to look into its mind through Dharana. During the Dhyana the mind is perceived as something else. And, during Samadhi the mind is treated as nothing but a bundle of thoughts and is just a wave which is part of the ocean, hence is completely ignored. This rises to Atma Jnana where the aspirant (henceforth called as Spirit) clearly realizes that It (He/She) is not only different from Prakruti and also a part of it which was its temporary existence and is beyond the three characteristics or Triguna and goes beyond duality. Then Once the Spirit completely realizes the transitoriness and the impermanence of the manifested cosmos as only an expression of the Purusha or Unmanifested, It merges into That - rather is constantly in that Universal Awareness.

Everyone in reality is that absolute. We all are Full (pUrNaM). The individual who realizes this attains Nirvaana.

We all have come on to this earth with an address/destiny based upon our pre-conditioned thought processes (karma). The desire has made us to come on to earth or take birth. This desire has removed our knowledge of our true immortal nature (amrut) and deluded us to think that we are mortals and got entangled with all worldly activities. To attain back this knowledge of immortality we have to take our consciousness in the reverse way i.e., in upward direction instead of downward direction. Upwards from moolaadhaara to agna chakra instead of agnaa chakra to moolaadhaara. By doing so we can burn off the desire to take birth meaning we can get rid of conditioned thinking.

This verse is an explanation of Kriya Yoga. From various sources it is understood that Saint Kabir has practiced Kriya Yoga and Kechari. Up the palate which is in the form cow’s ear, practice Kechari and by doing so one can drink the eternal nectar that comes through this practice similar to other saints who keep drinking this nectar through practice of Kechari. By doing so one can be in the world but not of the world.

Like many stellar spherical objects, earth is one among them similar to that of water in a lake. We all are nothing but a tiny speck among the infinite forms that are present in the Cosmos. Once we understand this limited nature of this physical body, we cannot get deluded further and get into the awareness of the transitory nature of the physical body. We can get into the awareness of our infinite nature by listening to the Guru’s words directly in meditation.

To understand or listen to Guru’s words, one has to practice pranayama repeatedly by keeping the attention on the forehead between the eyebrows (trikuta) or the ajna chakra which is the meeting point of the ida, pingala and sushumna nadis. By staying at trikuta while practicing hamsa or soham and going to the root of “Who am I?” one enters into the Stillness and can experience the Silence. Here one can also listen to the eternal naadam.

As Kabir I am saying this, please listen, understand and experience yourself this non-dual, ageless and immortal eternal Truth. All those who become aware of this eternal truth shall see this world as transient and attain the same ageless and immortal state.
